What Does Rittal Do: Energy and Power
With fast changes in technology and important equipment, flexible power distribution solutions are more important than ever. To rise to these challenges, we have a range of Energy & Power solutions for many different applications and industries.
Introduction
Energy is the lifeblood of modern industry. From the smallest workshop to the largest manufacturing plant, the availability and efficient use of power are critical determinants of productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability.
The Industrial Revolution marked a profound shift in human history. This was driven by the harnessing of new energy sources like coal and steam. Today, electricity powers most industrial processes, from lighting and heating to complex machinery and automation systems. As industries change, including the rise of AI, energy needs and global energy challenges grow. Energy plays a key role, requiring new ideas and sustainable practices.
At Rittal, we offer different Energy and Power solutions for many uses. These range from localised Busbar systems to large LV Switchgear. We also provide Battery Energy Storage Systems to complement these solutions.
Busbar Systems
Busbar systems are the backbone to any power distribution system. They provide a compact way to move power around an enclosure without bending radius of cables. These solutions work with all major brands chosen by the end user.
Rittal have a wide range of Busbars to cover almost every range of power you may need. Our line includes RiLine Compact (125A) & Mini PLS (250A), the popular RiLine60 (800/1600A) and also the Ri4Power185 (1600A).
Building on decades of success with the existing Rittal busbar lines, there's a new kid on the block. Revolutionising the busbar industry, RiLineX is set to launch in late Q1 2025. RiLineX is faster to assemble and install, also boasting improved safety features. As with all Rittal products, it is tested with all major manufacturer’s breakers along with IEC & UL certification.
RiLineX comes with fully integrated contact hazard protection to IP 2XB, upgradable to IP 4X. This ensures maximum protection and minimises the level of product and system expertise needed for planning and installation.
LV Switchboards
LV (Low Voltage) Switchgear panels are essential components in electrical distribution systems. They are used to control and protect electrical equipment in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from distribution boards, motor control centres (MCCs) up to form 4 switchboards. Rittal has a solution for every situation.
Rittal’s own LV Switchboard offering, known as Ri4Power, is the gateway to power distribution in the Rittal Ecosystem. It has been tested with all the major manufacturers of switchgear breakers.
Ri4Power’s modular design allows for quick and easy implementation and upgrading of your Ri4Power switchgear solutions. Demands are forever increasing. A modular design is going to future-proof your operations, mitigating the need for complete remodelling. The modular design is great at adapting and extending as needed. With Rittal quality, you can be sure each component slots in next to its neighbour.
The Ri4Power is based on the reliable VX25 chassis design by adapting to your needs. Its modular system makes life easier for installers since there is no flat pack to assemble before starting the main build.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Battery energy storage (BES) is rapidly emerging as a cornerstone of modern energy systems. The transition towards renewable energy considers BES a critical component for many reasons. Balancing supply and demand, improving grid stability, and reducing fossil fuel usage are all key concerns.
BES offers numerous advantages, including:
- Improved grid stability. This concept works by storing excess energy during periods of low demand and releasing it during peak times. BES helps balance the grid and prevent power outages.
- Increased renewable energy integration. The intermittent nature of renewable energy sources, like solar and wind power, puts the industry at a disadvantage. BES can work alongside these sources to ensure a reliable and consistent energy supply.
- Reduced carbon emissions. By displacing fossil fuels, BES contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
- Enhanced energy security: BES can help to reduce dependence on foreign energy sources and improve energy resilience.
BES is being deployed in a wide range of applications, including:
- Residential energy storage. Homeowners can install BES systems to store excess solar energy and reduce their reliance on the grid.
- Commercial and industrial applications. Businesses can use BES to optimise energy consumption, reduce costs, and improve energy efficiency.
- Grid-scale energy storage. Large-scale BES systems can be used to provide grid-level services, such as frequency regulation and peak shaving.
- Electric vehicle charging. BES can support the growing number of electric vehicles by providing charging infrastructure and managing peak demand.
At Rittal, we offer a variety of products. Our range includes rack-based BESS that uses our reliable VX25 system. This system is modular and works with the Ri4Power system. We also provide containerised solutions with built-in cooling. These solutions are easy to deploy and redeploy as needed.
